PUBLIC
SAFETY
As our neighborhood
grows, our public safety infrastructure needs to be enhanced. On City
Council I promise to focus on Quality of Life issues like gang prevention,
graffiti-removal and truancy abatement.
I will work with the community to develop a viable usage for the old
Berryessa Library on Noble Avenue so that it does not become a source
of urban blight, but is efficiently used to meet the needs of our community.
In addition, I will continue to serve as a bridge between the community
and the San Jose Fire and Police Department so local concerns are promptly
addressed.
Of
course public safety is more than just fighting crimes. It's about having
an all encompassing plan to protect our children when they are in schools
and our neighborhoods when they are home. It's about adequately funding
fire protection and medical services so they can react quickly to emergencies.
We must to hire more firefighters, police officers and other first responders
to reduce the time it takes to respond when our neighbors need help.
NEIGHBORHOOD
SERVICES
With continued budget
shortfalls, we have to make hard choices on how to best spend our limited
public funds. As an experienced businessman I know how to get the most
out of scarce resources. Taxpayer dollars must be spent wisely. My top
priorities will be on neighborhood services such as keeping our libraries
opened, potholes fixed and streetlights working. We also need to provide
better fire and police protection for all residents of District 4; regardless
whether they live in Alviso, North Valley, Berryessa or any corner of
our district.
ECONOMIC
DEVELOPMENT
Too many us have
to travel to other distant parts of town or even other cities to shop
or even just to enjoy a day off. Our neighborhoods have plenty of discount
stores, but many residents hope that we would also have a broader variety
of grocery stores, juice/coffee houses, family restaurants and unique
shops that would make our community vibrant and livable.
On the City Council I will work with the business community to bring
more shopping and leisure choices to the District. I will work with
the Mayor and the Council to cut unnecessary bureaucratic red tape and
create incentives so that businesses?big and small - will come to the
district. At the same time I will provide assistance to existing local
businesses so they will continue to thrive in our neighborhoods.
ACCOUNTABLE
TO THE PEOPLE
Like many of the
hundreds of residents of District 4 that I have talked to during this
campaign, I am concerned about lobbyist influence. Too often the influence
of well-connected lobbyists and special interests rises above the right
of the people, the neighborhood and our community. To remain accountable
to the people of San Jose, I am committed to not accepting any contribution
from lobbyists and special interest PACs during this campaign. Please
let me know what you think about the influence of lobbyists in City
Hall by emailing me at Bryan@BryanDo.com.
